The Beatles Love CD

The Beatles Love CD

November 21 marked the release of a new Beatles CD! Love is the result of a collaboration between Cirque du Soliel and The Beatles to base a Cirque show on the music of the Fab Four. Created by Sir George Martin and his son Giles, new music has been created from the original recordings of The Beatles. Remixed and mashed into brand new interpretations of the classic songs we've loved for all these years.

You'll never hear these songs the same way again. I can't wait to see the show in person or watch it at home on DVD.

Something to be aware of... there are two versions of this release. A regular CD with 78 minutes of music and a DVD-version (that includes the CD) but has 81 minutes of music in 5.1 format for play on your home theatre system.

All the details of the album's contents, including a song-by-song analysis can be found at my Beatles Love CD page.

"Take a sad song and make it better" indeed.

Updated Neil Diamond Web Site list

List of Neil Diamond Web Sites

I have reviewed and updated the list of Neil Diamond related web sites on the Beautiful Noise web page.

The old page was way out of date. Even now I have a bunch of broken or missing links marked. If they are still out of service in a week or so, I will remove them completely.

On the other hand, if you have a web site that isn't listed, or your favourite isn't included, please drop me an email or comment on this article, and I will be happy to include you in the list.

If you have a Neil Diamond links page, please consider including a link to Beautiful Noise - The Neil Diamond Internet Mailing List and joining the mailing list for news and lively discussions on Neil and his music.

Cheers!

Harry Chapin's 30,000 Pounds of Bananas

I always knew the song was based on fact. I even remember putting it on a cassette so I could listen to it as we drove through Scranton PA on our vacation one year.

But I never, ever, ever thought I would see this!

"30,000 pounds of smashed bananas"

Awesome! I guess you really can find anything on the Internet!!

Capeman Original Cast Recordings now available!

Paul Simon Discography - You're The One - 2000 to now

The Capeman musical, by Paul Simon and Derek Walcott, ran on Broadway for 68 shows in the spring of 1998, closing after poor reviews and losing about $11 million.

A Broadway Cast album (featuring Ruben Blades, Marc Anthony, Ednita Nazario and Sara Ramirez) was recorded but never released. The songs have been unheard until now.

On June 27, iTunes and Dreamworks made all 39 songs (the complete score) available for download.

This is the first time that Paul Simon related recordings have been made available exclusively via the Internet.

New details on Paul Simon's 1984 solo tour

Paul Simon Discography - Paul Simon - 1972 to 1985

In 1984 Paul Simon embarked on a brief North American tour to promote the Hearts And Bones album.. This set of shows was unique as it marked the first time he performed solo on stage for the entire concert.

Paul Simon has not toured solo since.

The shows I know about, took place in Ohio, Maryland, New Jersey, Michigan, Illinois, New York and British Columbia. If you know of any additional locations, please post a comment!

Neil Diamond's roof is no paradise now...

"Neil Diamond Sues Over Roof Construction
05/18/2006 7:32 PM, AP

Singer Neil Diamond is suing next-door neighbor Marianne Nestor, the widow of fashion designer Oleg Cassini, over what he says is illegal construction taking place on the roof of her building."

Hmmm... how did that song go?

When this old world
Starts a getting me down
And people are just too much
For me to face
I'll climb way up to the top of the stairs
And all my cares
Just drift right into space

On the roof, it's peaceful as can be
And there the world below
Don't bother me,
Let me tell you now
When I come home
Feeling tired and beat
I'll go up
Where the air is fresh and sweet
I'll get far away
From the hustling crowd
And all that rat-race noise
Down in the street

On the roof,
That's the only place I know
Where you just have to wish
To make it so
Let's go up on the roof
Look at those stars darlin'

At night the stars
They put on a show for free
And, darling,
You can share it all with me
I keep on telling you
That right smack dab
In the middle of town
I found a paradise that's trouble proof

And if this world
Starts a getting you down
There's room enough for two
Up on the roof
Way up on the roof

(by Gerry Goffin and Carole King, recorded by Neil Diamond on his "Up On The Roof" album)

Skype announces free North American calling

How to get calling: "Call ordinary phones for free - Calling any phone within the US and Canada is free until the end of the year. To make a call to a landline or cell phone, click on the Dial tab, insert the country code +1 in front of the number and press the green call button."

This has got to be the most fantastic news about VOIP calling. Skype was already a tremendous service, but being able to place calls from your PC to any phone in North America is amazing!
